Sunday Run a Bust

Hello all,

Today is a bummer.  I set out this morning on my 23k run (only four more long runs to go!).  I was a little worried because it was quite a winter stirring last night.  However, I bundled up and got myself prepared for the cold.  My friend was meeting me on the second loop and she bailed out this morning because of the wind!  So off I went down the road.  At 1km I realized it was much colder than I thought.  At around 2km, the wind was blowing and when it got strong (which was a lot) it would blow wind and snow on my face...it felt like little tiny daggers on my cheeks!  At 3km, I turned around and ran home.

So there you go.  What started as 23km ended up being 6km which I may have run in record time. Winter really blows.

Tomorrow I am going to a local indoor track to run 6 million laps around and get my 23km for my long run.  It is not ideal but better than a treadmill for 2.5 hours. Next week it is back up over 30k again so let's start hoping for some sun!

Instead, my husband, kids and I are heading out to pick up our tree from a local farm.  The children are extremely excited and I am also anxious to get out the decorations and lights.  Some family for dinner tonight and back to work again tomorrow!

i chickened out on running my 13k outside this morning too. I'm finally back to running and was so scared of slipping somewhere on a covered patch of ice... so i ran it on a treadmill. not the most fun i've had, but better than the freezing cold. Good luck on your laps tomorrow. :)

UGH! Our weather right now sounds like what yours is like! Lucky though, I am not training for anything so the 5km Santa Shuffle yesterday was my weekend run. Enjoy your day with your family and getting into the Christmas spirit! What about posting a photo of your tree once it's all decorated!

Sorry the weather derailed you. Good effort. Hope you found a great tree.

If it is any consolation, I think a lot of us are dealing with the snowy, windy, really cold conditions. I know it doesn't really help but, you're not alone in thinking the winter blows!

I feel your pain...it was -2 F here this morning. I managed 4 miles, no wind makes a huge difference (and there wasn't any). Although the I pod gave up about 1/2 way (too cold, darn thing).

Good luck tomorrow. And yes, winter blows!

Good luck tomorrow - hopefully it gets your training back on track (pun intended). :)

Winter does make for challenging conditions. Sometimes it's just better to get a good workout in rather than fight the cold/wind. We got dumped on here today - should making running the rest of the week rather challenging. It's that time of year I suppose. Just keep in mind how NICE it will be to run in Florida. No snow there in January :)

Winter is definitely not my favorite time of year. Sorry about your run. I agree that track running is much more fun than the treadmill, although 23k on a track might be another story. Hope you have some good tunes to distract you.

It's these kinds of situations that will continue to grow your character as a runner. I think most of us have had to turn back at some point - especially here in the northern reaches. That's tough and disappointing.

Sounds like you've got resolve though. I get the feeling you're tougher than you think. You may be a little wiser than you believe.

Hey, it's OK. Sometimes the weather just doesn't cooperate (stupid weather). I can't do treadmills either. I hope your run today goes well.

I don't blame you - the weather yesterday was BRUTAL. Good luck at the track!

Wind is the worst!! I usually think I'm fine until it starts to sting or actually blow me backwards.
