Running the Holidays

Again, I have been very neglectful of the blog and my blogger friends these past weeks but it seems wrapping up work, final weeks of training, planning a family vacation all over the busiest days of the year is a little more time consuming than I thought!

With that thought, I need to start planning what to bring.  Packing for my family is one thing but I don't want to forget any essentials for the marathon either.  I have been pouring over websites with tips and ideas and tried to search through the Disney site as well but I welcome any tidbits of advice!  I have this horrible image where I arrive in Florida with only one shoe (of the pair that I have PERFECTLY broken in) or without my all important hat.

I have mostly done my speech and practiced it a few times - 4.5 minutes give or take. Now my biggest stress on that is what to wear...it seems the marathon training diet is the WORST one ever!  I had hoped that two weeks before marathon, my butt would be the size of Jennifer Anistons but it seems that eating non-stop (especially on Sunday's) is not offset by miles of running...who knew???  Lesson learned oh wise running gods.

So I will spend the next week getting vacation organized because taking a loving but useless husband and two small children on an airplane to Orlando should be no problem. (*cough, gasp*).

I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and looking forward to a joyous 2009!

Hey! We are all going to Disney too! I am doing goofy though (insert screams of panic) I went last year too... and my advice is take your shoes and hat and anything else that is critical on the plane with you. I always take my shoes on with me knowing that anything else I could replace at the expo if I had to but they don't sell broken in shoes. :) Plan on it being really warm... last year it was so humid. They are really good about water stations but even with a 6 am start it was warm. If you have any other questions feel free to email me :) info@theribbonspot.com Good Luck!

Yes-pack all our running gear in a carry on bag. That way if your luggage gets lost, you'll still have your carry on.

When you get to the hotel, lay out all your running gear for race morning. Make sure you have it all. We do this before every race and before we head to the expo so if we did forget something, we can pick what we need up at the expo. Disney has a huge expo, so if you do forget something, you should be able to pick anything you need.

Not very much longer!

It's coming so fast! Stressing over the fact that you forget clothes or shoes is a part of the taper madness! LOL

Making a list is the best way to remember everything!

Good luck on the speech too =)

Agreed, take your race gear on board as carry-on luggage...don't forget your body glide and sunscreen, gels, deoderant (JK), anything you normally use for a run, throw it in the carry-on. make a running gear list and put in the bag too!

Have a GREAT time!

You've gotten great advice about the running gear. You'll do great!

BTDT with the useless husband and two kids on a plane. It usually works out ok, especially if you use electronic entertainment LOL.

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Running Disney sounds exciting! It's good you're packing early - just pack something as you think of it and then you won't have to worry about it anymore. I agree with everyone above that packing your running stuff as a carryon is smart. I think I read about someone that mentioned gels got through security so you don't have to worry about that! Good luck!

Thanks for stopping by my blog.

Have fun at Disney. That sounds like a dream race - and a fun vacation too... once you get all the logistics worked out. Good luck.

I agree with everyone about taking the running gear on your carry on. I might also suggest that you bring your own gu or sport beans (whatever your racing poison is) because sometimes it is hard to find what you are used to using.

You are going to do great! I am excited to read about your race as well as your speech. Good luck to you!!!

Not that you don't have enough on your plate already-Ha! But wanted to extend the invitation that a couple of us bloggers may get together at the expo to exchange hellos in person.

Don't have a day or time set yet-but if you think you can work it in with two kids at Disney and a husband-getting ready for your speech and running a marathon-let me know!
